The Man in Black (American Recordings Vol I-III)!

Hi everyone,

Last show was devoted to an introduction, or just fun stroll for some, to the music of Johnny Cash. This show and the next will have music from the last few albums he recorded before his death in 2003.

The sum of it is that Cash was a well-known but neglected legend by the late years of his career. Dropped by Columbia Records, then Mercury, he signed with Rick Rubin's American Recordings label. Rubin is kind of a super producer who is known for his work with U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many others, encouraged Johnny to strip down to just him and his guitar, and that is what the first volume is. Volume II: Unchained, is a collaboration with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. Volume III: Solitary Man, like the first two, won Grammys.

The albums feature cover songs (by the likes of Petty, Neil Diamond, & Nick Cave), new songs, and old Johnny songs done new. I've picked out 20 songs from this trio, and next time will feature more from the next three volumes. Enjoy!

PeaceNstarZ,
V
