Medeski, Martin, & Wood's 20!

Hi everyone,

Allaboutjazz.com writes about this album: "In an ongoing celebration of its twentieth anniversary, Medeski Martin & Wood released twenty original recordings in digital form over the course of 2011. Sequenced in the order in which the tracks were released, the collection as a whole flows with the expert pacing of an MMW performance and, in truth, with much the same artful pacing as their best studio albums, such as Combustication (Blue Note, 1999)."

They don't tour as much as they did, but MMW have made a lot of great music over the years. This is a really nice stop along the way. Two hours of it! Including an older song to fill it out :)

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's Flying Microtonal Banana!

Hi everyone,

I found this album somewhat randomly, but love these Aussie guys already. Here's what Pitchfork.com says about this record:

"Flying Microtonal Banana was the product of Gizzard king Stu Mackenzie acquiring a custom-made guitar modified for microtonal tuning, which allows for intervals smaller than the semitones that govern Western music. And since the new guitar could only be played with similarly tuned instruments, he reportedly paid his bandmates $200 each to also get their gear tricked out with microtonal capabilities."

And it weirdly nicely rocks end to end, whether you know the details or not! Enjoy!

Bonobo's Migration!

Bonobo is the stage name for the English electronic artist Simon Green. This album is his 6th album. I happened upon him somewhat randomly, & am glad for it. His music has a kind of acoustic goodness inside his electronic playfulness. Drums, horns, keyboards, sometimes voices. Dancey, trippy, much fun! :)

Actress is the name of a British electronic artist named Darren Cunningham. I've long been a fan of his work because while the critics can point to his influences (Afrofuturism, for example), his art is not summed by these easily summable mentions. In other words, listen to his music, find its wild & different grooves, and leave the words, in this instance useless, far behind :)

The Crystal Method's Vegas!

Hi everyone,

Digging back some more for 'tronic-y goodies and how could I have not played this debut album by TCM? It's everything good about electronica back in the 1990s: swirly, fun, trippy, melodic, and such wild rhythms!

I got an extra hour this week so I added in the 10th anniversary remixes of this album done by Paul Oakenfold, MSTRKRFT, Hyper, Sta, Deadmau5, Koma & Bones, Tom Real vs. The Rogue Element and Myagi. 

Fantastic!
