Venus Ex Machina's Lux & Doxa!

Hi everyone,

Two great albums from Nontokozo F. Sihwa, the composer and producer who makes music as Venus Ex Machina. From Factmag.com: "Trained as a mathematician, Sihwa explores themes of futurism, post-humanism and the phenomenology of radio-related communication through sonic precision, designing instruments, algorithms and oscillations that gesture towards and move through the Black musical traditions of techno, electro and experimental music. Conceiving of performance and her role as performer as a practice of storytelling, Sihwa understands sound as a language of emotion, a means of evocation and invocation. 'The place may be gone, yet you persist in seeking it, believing in the power of fantasy to redeem you from reason . . . A sweaty night underneath a motorway, somewhere. The end of summer. A refusal to give up.'"

Just WOW.

Múm's Yesterday Was Dramatic – Today Is OK!

Hi everyone,

Múm is an amazing Icelandic indietronic band! This, their 1999 debum album (plus some remixes and reinterpretations of the album's songs as bonus tracks), is just wonderfully amazing. A thing of music beauty. Just wow.

Patricia Brennan's Maquishti!

 Hi everyone,

Here is the write-up of the brilliant Patricia Brennan from her website:

Vibraphonist, marimbist, improviser and composer Patricia Brennan “has been widely feted as one of the instrument’s newer leaders.”  observed The New York City Jazz Record.  She inherited a deep love and appreciation for musical tradition from both parents, as well as being exposed to the musical richness of her native Port of Veracruz. She started studying music at 4 years old, playing latin percussion along salsa records with her father and listening to Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin records with her mother. Also, around the same age, she started playing piano, influenced by her grandmother who was a concert pianist.

At the age of 17, Patricia was selected from musicians all over the Americas to be part of the Youth Orchestra of the Americas. During this time, she toured every country in the Americas and performed with renowned musicians such as Yo-Yo Ma and Paquito D’Rivera. Before moving to the U. S., Patricia was already performing with the top symphony orchestras in Mexico, such as Xalapa Symphony Orchestra and Mineria Symphony Orchestra. Also, she had already won several awards on marimba competitions and young artist competitions in Mexico and abroad and was featured in the “Líderes Mexicanos” magazine in 2003. She was accepted at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she was able to perform alongside high caliber musicians from all over the world and conductors such as Simon Rattle and Charles Dutoit. She also performed with the prestigious Philadelphia Orchestra and other acclaimed new music groups such as members from Eight Blackbird.

Patricia's search for freedom in her musical expression led her to find her voice through the vibraphone and mallet percussion in improvisational music and composition.

Her 2021 debut album is awesome!

Rival Consoles' Overflow & Now Is!

Hi everyone,

Ryan Lee West, known as Rival Consoles, is a wonderful electonic musician! Wikipedia insightfully calls his music a mix of "ambient, shoegaze, minimal techno and cinematic—often created with analogue synths, pedals and degraded processes."

What excites me most in music like his is that I feel the deep soul, the passionate craft, & I want to move in appreciation, in happiness!

Fripp & Eno's Evening Star & The Equatorial Stars!

Hi everyone,

Robert Fripp & Brian Eno released their amazing second album in 1975, then waited until 2004 for another!

The good news is that their brilliant geniuses remain in tact, then & now! Frippertronics lives!

Enjoy!

Fripp & Eno's (No Pussyfooting)!

Hi everyone,

Robert Fripp & Brian Eno released this amazing first album of theirs in 1973. Here is a good Wikipedia description:

Brian Eno invited Robert Fripp to his London home studio in September 1972. Eno was then experimenting with a tape-delay feedback system that he first devised while studying at the Winchester School of Art and further described in a score called "Delay and Decay,” published in late 1966. The system had been used earlier by Terry Riley and an anonymous ORTF engineer in Paris in 1963 and named the "Time-Lag Accumulator": two reel-to-reel tape recorders are set up side by side and sounds recorded on the first deck would be played back by the second deck, and then routed back into the first deck to create a long looping tape delay. Fripp played guitar over Eno's loops, while Eno selectively looped or recorded Fripp's guitar without looping it. The result is a dense, multi-layered piece of early ambient music. This technique later came to be known as "Frippertronics."

Enjoy!

Tangerine Dream's Force Majeure!

Hi everyone,

This TD album just blows me away, deep, strange, & beautiful. Funny story about it from the Wikipedia:

The distortion of the bass sequence on "Thru Metamorphic Rocks" was the result of a burnt-out transistor in the mixing desk. When the band heard the result, they decided to keep it.

Great idea!

Bo Hansson's Music Inspired by Lord of the Rings & Magician's Hat

Hi everyone,

Bo Hansson was an amazing instrumental prog-rock Swedish musician. Featured on this show are his first & second solo albums. His first inspired by Tolkien's great Middle Earth books, & his second emerging from the same time period. Puff em if you got em, relax, let your inner Hobbit loose to dance a little!

Tangerine Dream's Zeit & Atem!

Hi everyone,

More great music from this legendary German electronic group. Regarding 1972's Zeit, the 2002 reissue notes that: "Zeit, which means 'time', was based on the philosophy that time was in fact motionless and only existed in our own minds." Space music for all!

Tangerine Dream's Electronic Meditation & Alpha Centauri!

Hi everyone,

These are the first & second albums from this legendary German electronic group, released in 1970 & 1971. They were coming up with new sounds where they had not existed, or existed so well as music. Come back with me a-ways to such great source music!

Port Blue's The Airship!

Hi everyone,

An online description describes Port Blue as "an Ambient Electronic side-project by Adam Young, founded in 2006, which has a different music aesthetic to that of Owl City."

OK, I haven't heard Owl City yet, but I really like this album a lot. Lifts up my low late-winter spirits. Try it with me too!

Dustin Wong & Takako Minekawa' s Are Euphoria & Dustin Wong & Takako Minekawa & Good Willsmith' s Exit Future Heart!

Hi everyone,

Here is what is going on here: "Exit Future Heart follows three Good Willsmith albums released on Umor Rex and three albums by Dustin Wong and Takako Minekawa on Thrill Jockey. Recorded live at home in Chicago over the course of one night when Wong and Minekawa passed through on tour, Exit Future Heart showcases a program of spontaneous compositions that flow through mutated tropes of rock music, focused ambient/kosmische synthesis, and expanses of raw textural sculpting."

The Orbital's The Altogether!

Hi everyone,

Some more Orbital for me & y'all! One of the Orbital brothers, Phil, said, perfectly, that: "The Altogether is for listening to at a party with your mates. That's what I take it to mean anyway. [Other brother] Paul thinks it's about not having any clothes on."
