Afro Celt Sound System's Anatomic!

Hi everyone,

I haven't played enough Afro Celt Sound System over the years, just a few here and there in different episodes. But this time my whole show is devoted to their great 2005 album, Anatomic. It's an hour long, lasts in the ears lovely forever. Turn off the lights, under your blankets, curtains down, come along, come away . . .

Happy 12th Anniversary, SpiritPlants Radio!!

Hi everyone,

This great radio station I get to play my music on is now 12 years on the Internets! Wow. Crazy. And I've been doing my show on it for 7 years! CRAZY!

So for this anniversary show of mine, I'm doing a variation on the first show I did back in 2008. I played Shpongle's Tales of the Inexpressible. This time, Are You Sphongled? from 1998. They are such a funky high band, it's a pleasure to share their music.

7 years of me in yer ears. CRAZY! :)

Sound Tribe Sector Nine!

Hi everyone,

It's been five years since my show has featured this great Georgia band, and I think it's high time they got their own full episode. So this time begin with a live tune from 2005, then the great When the Dust Settles EP from 2011, & finally a glorious 90 minutes from 2013. Two hours of jammy goodness to cure whateva' ails ya! :)

Naked City with John Zorn!

Hi everyone,

Another week of John Zorn, since I got asked last minute to make a show. This one he recorded with a group called Naked City in 1998. The group included guitarist Bill Frisell, keyboardist Wayne Horvitz, bassist Fred Frith, drummer Joey Baron, and guest vocalist Yamatsuka Eye. Old rock-style songs, movie themes, and some really cool Zorn-y weirdness. An hour of fun!

Old School Zorn!

Hi everyone,

Anyone who knows me knows I love me some John Zorn. His music is beautiful, strange, creepy, dreamy, on & on. But, lately, his albums have been way to prog-metal for my tastes. So I dug out some old stuff of his to play, & cheered me right up! This show features Elegy from 1992, Aporias: Requia for Piano & Orchestra,  & a few from 1993's Kristallnacht. Wonderful music! Turn out your lights & let him swoop in to entertain :)

From Bone to Satellite!

Hi everyone,

Tarentel's From Bone to Satellite from 1999 is one on my favorite old school post-rock albums. It reminds me of a strange stormy day at the ocean, stormy at times, quiet, unpredictable. Beautiful & strange & so good.

A Year with 13 Moons!

Hi everyone,

Jefre Cantu-Ledesma is a member of the ambient group Tarentel, a post-rock group kinda sorta like Mogwai & Godspeed You! Black Emperor, improvy and droney. This show features Jefre's new solo album, and it's definitely a little noisier than his band. Like a rambunctious story with no words. Give it a chance & listen!

The Phosphorescent Blues!

Hi everyone,

This week I indulge my love of cutting edge Americana music and feature The Punch Brothers' new album The Phosphorescent Blues. Very strange and love bluegrass-based music, has a deep tuneful drone that ambient fans may just find familiar, and enjoy. So, enjoy!

Paul McCartney's Liverpool Sound Collage!

Hi everyone,

Back in 2000, Macca worked with Super Furry Animals and Youth to produce a strange new record, part ambient, part old Beatles chatter, part man-on-the-street-interview goofiness. Since back in Feb I had such a delight featuring George Harrison, this time the Cute One gets his due. This is good stuff!

The Chemical Brothers - Born in the Echoes!!

Hi everyone,

Wow! The new Chems LP is just fan---tas---tick!!! Haven't liked their works since Surrender and Come With Us back years ago. This new one just jumps off the turntable and kicks the ass into dancing!! :)

Back to the Orb!

Hi everyone,

Didn't think I'd be back the Orb's way so soon, but here they are with a great new record, Moonbuilding 2703 AD. Dreamy, trippy fine goodness. Plus a last bit from my friend who likes to read his crazy lines to the Orb sometimes. Enjoy!

The Black Dog's Tranklements!

Hi everyone,

The Black Dog is one of the pioneers of IDM (intelligent dance music). But I hadn't heard them much, strangely. Then I was looking for music similar to Board of Canada, one of my faves, and came across them. I tried their early music and like it, but it was Tranklements that really took hold of me. Came out in 2013, and it's great! Try it, and be ready for their next release later this year.

Orbital 1!

Hi everyone,

Wow, this album is all sorts of fun, sampling Star Trek: Next Generation, Beneath the Planet of the Apes, & Jim Morrison, among many other treats. It bounces, jives, go for 70+ minutes non-stop. Jump in!

U.F.Orb!!!

Hi everyone,

This ambient masterpiece really rocks my world every time I dig it out to play. I like to clear the floor, turn out the lights, maybe some candles, and just let it rule my world for awhile. Since I had a little time at the end, I included a remix with a friend reading his strange, fun writings.

Pelt's Pearls from the River

Hi everyone,

Pelt is known as drone folk by some, and certainly that's a decent description. Their music is dreamy in a dark night kind of way. This album of theirs is from 2003, and I just love it. The show's hour is filled out with an older track from their album Ayahuasca. Enjoy! :)

Liquid Sound Company!

Hi everyone,

Liquid Sound Company is from Arlington, Texas, and they have released two albums so far, Exploring The Psychedelic in 1996, and 2002's Inside The Acid Temple. Their sound is heavy electric guitars and  Moog organ, sometimes gets almost metalish, but often just acid rocks out. I had a few weekends some years ago, it was a long winter, put them on my headphones and drifted into the snow night. Enjoy!

Electronic Sound (plus a few extra gems) by George Harrison!

Hi everyone,

This time around I let my secret Beatles fanatic flag fly with some music from the Quiet One, otherwise known as brilliant lead guitarist George Harrison. He recorded some solo work during the late Beatles years that not many know about. The 1969 album Electronic Sound features two long pieces played on the Moog synthesizer, still pretty new at the time.

These two are most of this show, but there are also a few pieces from Harrison's first solo album, 1968's Wonderwall Music soundtrack album. His love of Indian music and Western rock both mix into this lovely deep album. Obscure Beatle music worth hearing!!

FaltyDL!

Hi everyone,

So I'm continuing to explore recent electronic releases, and found this one by FaltyDL, album called In the Wild, from last year. His name is Andrew Lustman, based in New York, and I think his music is spacey and beautiful, sometimes dark, sometimes blissed out. Definitely special, check it out!

Machinedrum's Vapor City!

Hi everyone,

Machinedrum is the performer name for Travis Stewart, who has been around a few years. Vapor City and Vapor City Archives are an exciting pair of albums, especially running through one to next. I added a live performance to finish off the set. Lay back, set on your headphones, go!
